About
Eco-Prayer began with a simple conviction: that caring for the living world is something all of us can do, every day, wherever we are, and that this care matters more than we know. Below, you can read about the organization and its vision, follow the blog, find positive news from the natural world, and explore a wide library of resources for prayer, reflection, and action.
About Eco-Prayer
Eco-Prayer is a simple daily practice: choose a place, plant, animal, or people you love, and hold them and their ecosystem in prayer or quiet reflection each day. That practice is the heart of what we do.
It grows out of a larger hope. That people across every nation and tradition might come to hold the living earth in daily care, and that this shared attention, widened and sustained, becomes a real force for the world's healing.
Eco-Prayer is the first outreach of Thriving Earth, a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization founded in the United States.
Vision
A world where care, prayer, and mindfulness for the earth are part of daily life, across every nation, culture, and tradition.
Mission
To encourage spiritual and physical interventions that restore, support, and develop thriving ecosystems.
We work toward this in four ways:
We invite people in.
Through education, outreach, dialogue, and example, we encourage people of every nationality, religion, and culture, and those of no tradition at all, to take up daily prayer and good will for the earth's ecosystems.
We open a wider conversation.
We foster the exploration of "eco-theology," the spiritual understanding of how the divine, humanity, and the living world relate, among thinkers and leaders across traditions. Theology that supports sustainable living, and that honors prayer, ritual, and ceremony as real interventions for all life.
We help people find their own calling.
We encourage reflection and contemplation so that each person and group can discover what they are best suited to do. "Pray as though everything depended on God. Act as though everything depended on you."
We look for new ways forward.
We develop new ways to support ecosystems, a thriving earth, and a fuller vision of human thriving.
