Eco-Prayer 30 Day Challenge

Thirty days of holding the earth in daily prayer and reflection. One small, faithful moment a day.

Care for the earth grows the way care for anyone grows: a little attention, offered faithfully, day after day. The 30-Day Challenge is a simple way to begin. For thirty days, you hold one part of the living world you love in prayer or reflection, just for a moment, and let it become a quiet daily rhythm.

It asks for a minute. By the end, that minute often becomes something you keep for life.

The practice

1. Elige una o varias personas, lugares, plantas o animales que te gusten.

2. Commit to prayer or reflection with positive intention each day, for those you love, and the ecosystems they live in.

However you pray, reflect, or simply pay attention, you are welcome here. These are invitations, free for you to shape in your own words and your own tradition.

Guidelines for eco-prayer and good will intention. On a blue background with stars, a hand holds a glass globe of Earth with a view of the continents. Text on left reads: 'Choose one or more places, plants or animals that you love.' On right, text says: 'Each day pray with positive intention for that place, plant or animal and the entire ecosystem that supports it.'

How to begin today

You can start right now, on your own. No sign-up, nothing to wait for.

  1. Choose what you love. One or more places, plants, animals, or peoples. Perhaps one close to home, and one far away.

  2. Find a picture. Keep an image of what you have chosen somewhere you will see it each day: a mirror, a refrigerator, the dashboard of your car. Let it catch your eye and call you back to the practice. Our Ecosystems pages are a good place to begin imagining.

  3. Take your moment, each day. Bring what you love to mind, and hold it a while in prayer, meditation, or quiet attention. Wish it health, balance, beauty, thriving.

  4. Let it widen. Day by day, let your care reach further, from the green outside your door to the far side of the world, until holding the earth begins to feel like part of who you are.

A simple way to keep count

Mark each day however you like: a note on a calendar, a line in a journal, a small stone moved from one pocket to another. Thirty days is long enough for a practice to take root. A thing done once is a moment. A thing done for a month becomes a rhythm, and rhythms have a way of staying.

Carry it with you

Each day you reach toward something far greater than yourself, and home toward something you have always been part of. Many people begin the Challenge hoping to find one small thing they can do for the earth, and finish having found a practice they keep for years.
