Wetlands
Come to the edge of a marsh at dawn and the whole place is humming with quiet life. Wetlands are among the richest, most generous places on earth: the heron standing still in the shallows, the frogs and dragonflies, the reeds bending in the breeze, the countless birds that rest and nest among the waters. Marshes and swamps and bogs do patient, hidden work for all of us, filtering the water clean, holding back the floods, cradling more life in their shallows than almost anywhere else alive.
These quiet waters are greater than any of us, and their gift moves within us too. The wetlands clean what flows through them and send it on renewed, a slow and faithful tending that asks for nothing in return. To pray for the wetlands is to reach toward something humble and life-giving beyond you, and in the same breath, to honor the quiet, healing work that also runs through you.
So hold the marshlands a while, today and tomorrow and the day after. Picture the waters clear, the reeds tall, the wetlands full of wings and song, and offer them what you offer all you love: a wish for their health, their abundance, their teeming and tender thriving. Let this be your prayer for the wetlands, in your own words, in your own tongue. The truest ones are rising from the still water even now.

An Eco-Prayer for the Wetlands
Swamp, marsh and bog. Land and water in a slow flow of life.
Saw-grass and rice. Alligator, frog and bird. Abundance untold. Our bodies, too, are dry and wet. Form and water mix and strain through each other.
What life in this still flow do you most appreciate?
