This is the one you can step outside and touch. Not a far-off wilderness, not a place in a photograph, but the living world right where you are: the trees along your street, the birds at the feeder, the weeds rising green and stubborn through a crack in the pavement, the particular light and weather that belong to your own corner of the earth. We tend to look for nature somewhere else, somewhere grander. It has been at your doorstep all along.

And there is quiet power in beginning here. This is the place you can truly come to know, watching it turn through the seasons until it feels like part of you, because in a real way it already is, the air and water and ground you live inside every day. Here, too, your care most easily becomes action: a tree planted, a corner left wild, water set out in a dry spell, a patch of earth tended with a neighbor. To pray for the place you live is to reach toward the wider living world, and to root yourself more deeply in the small piece of it that is yours to love.

So hold your own place a while, today and tomorrow and the day after. See the gardens green, the local creek running clear, the trees and birds and pollinators flourishing close to home. Offer it what you offer all you love: a wish for its health, its beauty, its everyday thriving. Let this be your prayer for the place you live, in your own words and your own tongue. The truest ones are already rising in you, close as the ground beneath your feet.
